Al Jazeera

Al Jazeera is an Arabic news and current affairs satellite television station. It launched in 1996 and on November 15th 2006 Al Jazeera English was launched.

The headquarters are in Doha, Qatar and is Al Jazeera English the first English-language news channel headquartered in the Middle East (source).  At least 15 former BBC reporters work for the channel, such as Sir David Frost and Riz Khan.

Countless hours of videos are available on demand on Al Jazeera’s Youtube channel. It’s also possible to watch the channel live on Youtube. It has been really good to have access to the live stream on Youtube for the past months, watching the protests in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and of course the horrible effects of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Some of my favorite shows are: Frost Over the World, Empire and Riz Khan. I will include three shows I can recommend to everyone to watch.

I shall definitely check these out. I did not realise that Al Jazeera had a live broadcast, it is proving to be quite an interesting figure in the global media landscape.
